That Long, Long Rocky Road

by Tom Parker
The winds came up slowly
In the spring of '45
A year that the famine swept the land

The summer was brutal
And the winter so unkind
A test for the people to withstand
And how they did travel
That long, long rocky road
And how they could do it all again
So let us remember
How they lived and how they died
The proud and the brave of Ireland

Hoping one day
All men will be
Brothers under the sun

All good people
Sharing the Earth
Living peaceful as one
So let us speak truly
And let us make a vow
That we will do everything we can
To bring understanding
To a place few understand
The South and the North of Ireland
And how they did travel
That long, long rocky road
And how we must travel it again
With strength of an eagle
And the heart of a dove
Resolve that the war's forever banned

True peace in all of Ireland
